Striving To Answer All Of Your Questions
The Intensive Feeding Program is a full day program. Most other therapies will have to be on hold until completion of the program.
Since every child’s feeding disorder is different, The Feeding Institute of South Florida and the parent will work together to identify appropriate foods for your child and will discuss what needs to be brought from home and what will be provided.
This is a concern for many parents. We understand that school is important and will happy to assist with communicating with the school to ensure your child will not fall behind.
Some families coming from out of town are able to stay at the Quantum House located in West Palm Beach. We also have discounts with local hotels.
For most of our families, the parent is not in the therapy sessions until the fourth week of the program where the family is encouraged to come in a set up the meal and feed/interact with their child while eating. Parent involvement is an integral part of the process. Parent training is provided throughout the 8 weeks. This will encourage carryover into the home environment.
We understand the 8-week program may be difficult for some of our families. Some of our families found it beneficial to take a leave of absence from work and use the Family Medical Leave Act.
Other families have used family members/caregivers to bring their child to treatment. Your child’s attendance to the program is important to us and we will be happy to work with you to make it happen.
Our intensive day program is a full day program. You can expect to be at the clinic from 8:00-3:00 or 8:30 to 3:30. Throughout the day, your child will have three, 45 minute meals (breakfast, lunch, snack) and one 60 minute session of occupational therapy. There will be breaks between meals.
